Nature Journaling

About 12 years ago I attended a one night event on nature journaling by famous nature artist and journalist Jack Laws. I immediately connected with the speed, simplicity and the enjoyable benefits of nature journaling. It provided to me an activity that combined with my love of nature and my desired to capture the nature with art of drawing, and watercolors.

Over the course of years, I have developed an efficient journaling process that I have taught in various venues and have several journal volumes that record various trips and events in the bound journaling book.

In 2010 I created a printable nature journaling guide explaining my basic journaling approach and some examples. This PDF can be downloaded below.

In 2020, I was invited to participate in a “Exploring a Sense Of Place” video where I explain my journaling techniques. Look at video at 13:23 minutes in

I always travel with the nature journal ready to record the nature around, More recently I use it to record maps and trails and project notes for the various projects I take on.
