In late July 2022, I hiked and backpacked various segments of PCT trail in northern California. This was one trip out of the Shasta area trailheads to a chain of lakes just about 1 mile off the PCT trail called East Boulder Lake. In the distance about 30 miles away was a thunderhead set of clouds that would end up starting the McKenny explosive fire that would close the PCT trail and force about 1000 PCT hikers to be rerouted out of that area and thousands right behind to be rerouted for weeks to come in the summer.
