Yosemite Valley

One of the iconic views of Yosemite Valley is at this one particular stop on the Merced River as you are heading west out of the Valley. At this point, the river is often fairly still in the late summer and fall seasons and it reflects the El Capitain and the Bridalveil Falls. When I visit the valley, I always carefully stay in the left of the two lanes heading west so I stop and turn off at this smaller parking area to capture a moment. This is one of the last views you get from the valley before heading out.

Bodie State Park – CA

Bodie is unique historical state park off of Highway 395 near Bridgeport CA. It is filled with many old buildings that were simply abandoned when the silver dried up and everyone left.

Hwy 395

Highway 395 on the eastern side of California is an endless road of paint-able images. On one side you the steeper side of the Sierra Nevada range that peaks out at 15,000 + feet near Whitney with flat green and brown hills below.

Summer is short in these dry and tougher areas. In the past, some hardy folks have build houses in the Owen Valley Corridor that have been abandoned for years that make for great paintings. Here is a painting of an abandoned house near Mono Lake.
