Journal Book Sketches
With several flights and time to paint and sketch on the boat and at the cabin, I have put in several more sketches into my nature journal book that I travel with to capture scenes in a very quick manner. Typically these are 10-15 minutes top to draw and watercolor and notate the drawing.
Holiday Card 2025 – Ink/Watercolors Sketches
This year I did a few quick ink sketches and watercolors for holiday cards. Here are some of the sketches I put together.
Sunset Paddler, Florence Italy
This painting is based on a view I saw during my stay in Florence a month previously at sunset over the Arno river with a late paddler.
Late Fall Pinecrest
This painting is from a view of Pinecrest lake in late December before the snow has fallen but the lake levels are fairly low.
Herring Creek, California
A color day outside near Strawberry, California overlooking Herring Creek. I tried to capture the parts of the snow on the ground and rocks but it still looks like spring. It is December the snow has come and gone a few times this winter so far.
Strawberry Peak, California
The snow has arrived in the Sierras in California so today I grabbed my painting gear and headed off to capture a snowy view with trees and rocks.
Slovenia Town Street
This tiny town higher in the mountains had houses and streets that were over a thousand year old. This street and the light made for an interesting sketch and painting.
Praha Park, Czech
I spent 6 days in Prague (Praha) in Czech visiting friends and exploring the city. This painting is of a park inside of Prague.
Sketches and Journaling
In Greece, I picked up a watercolor journal book and started to draw/watercolor scenes as I traveled thru Greece, Austria, Slovenia, and Czech. The sketches were helpful to decide what to paint.
